What We Learned from Donuts: The Sweetest Lesson in Engagement

In the world of community engagement and economic development, we've learned something invaluable: nothing brings people together quite like donuts. Yes, you read that right—donuts! Our “Donuts on Douglas” event has been generating more positive engagement than many of our other services and offerings here at Grow Ellsworth County.

Collaboration and Calories: A Sweet Recipe

The secret ingredient to our success? Collaboration sprinkled with a dash of humor and a generous helping of sugar. Imagine this: professionals from various sectors gathering around a table, not to discuss mundane business strategies, but to savor the perfect glaze on a freshly baked donut. It turns out, the path to fruitful collaboration is paved with sprinkles and filled with jelly.

At “Donuts on Douglas,” we've witnessed firsthand how food, especially donuts, can dissolve barriers, spark conversations, and create connections. From small business owners to local residents, everyone finds common ground over a donut (or two, or three... who’s counting?). These sugary circles of joy have taught us that sometimes, the best way to engage with our community is to simply share a snack and a smile. (And a little marketing material about our upcoming events!)

The Algorithm Conundrum: Why Aren’t You Seeing Our Posts?

Here’s a little not-so-sweet fact: our posts about all the other amazing things we do—economic development workshops, community events, and business support initiatives—aren’t getting the same love as our donut posts. Why? Because you, dear bystanders and silent followers, aren’t commenting or liking them!

Social media algorithms are like that one strict teacher who only gives out gold stars for participation. If you’re not engaging with our posts, the algorithm assumes you’re not interested and hides them from your feed. So while you’re missing out on crucial updates, we’re left wondering if anyone is actually out there. Well, except for those who love a good donut from Mitchell's Bakery, and hey, we aren't judging.

Donuts: The Great Equalizer

So what’s the moral of the story? Donuts are magical. They bring people together, they foster collaboration, and they get people talking. And when people talk (or comment, or like), the algorithm takes notice.

If you love the community and want to stay informed, start engaging! Like, comment, share, and yes, join us at “Donuts on Douglas.” Oh, wait.... we still don't have 100 comments on that post (or any other) which was a requirement for the return of the donuts! Maybe it's not too late and we can get 100 comments on THIS post? Beggars aren't choosy. We will take the engagement where we get it. Who knew that the key to a more connected, informed community was sitting right there in the middle of a white bakery box?

In Conclusion: Donuts for the Win

We’ve learned that sometimes the sweetest solutions are the simplest. So, let’s keep the conversation going, one donut at a time. And remember, the next time you see a post from Grow Ellsworth County, give it some love and a share. Because together, we can turn every initiative into a sweet success.

Until next time, keep calm and donut on!
